Lance Cpl. Matthew G. Mahler, of Long Island, New York, an infantryman with Battalion Landing Team 1st Bn., 2nd Marines, cautiously enters a house near the Euphrates River during his patrol's search for arms caches and insurgents north of Hit, Iraq, Dec. 29, 2005. BLT 1/2 is the ground combat element of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), which is currently in Iraq's Al Anbar province conducting combat operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
