Marines from Battalion Landing Team 1st Bn., 2nd Marines, the ground combat element of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) use their binoculars and rifle scopes to examine the area surrounding a discovered improvised explosive device (IED) during a motorized patrol near Forward Operating Base Hit, Iraq, Jan. 2, 2006. The discovery, and later destruction of an insurgent bomb placement team spotted by the Marines, was part of the MEU's ongoing counterinsurgency operations in Iraq's Al Anbar province with the 2nd Marine Division.
