Corporal Vernon Place, of Yakima, Wash., a combat engineer with MEU Service Support Group 22, calibrates a mine detector with the help of another Marine prior to a sweep through an Iraqi field in search of weapons caches, Jan. 10, 2006. MSSG-22 is the combat service support element of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), which is conducting counterinsurgency operations in Iraq's Al Anbar province.
