Staff Sgt. Clausele Barthold, a native of Haiti and interpreter for Battalion Landing Team, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, jokes with a group of locals near Leogane, Haiti, Jan. 20. Barthold was one of the first Marines to volunteer his expertise as a French-Creole speaking interpreter to support relief efforts after a devastating earthquake rocked Haiti more than one week ago. The Bataan Amphibious Ready Group and embarked elements of the 22nd MEU arrived off the Haitian coast Monday to support relief efforts already underway. The 22nd MEU is a multi-mission force composed of approximately 2,000 Marines and sailors.
