Second Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Gordon D. Miller, awards Lance Cpl. Calvin J. Carlson, a battalion machine gun section leader and Grant, Mich., native, the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal after conducting a live firing range aboard Camp Lejeune, N.C. Sept. 29, 2010. Carlson recently served in a staff noncommissioned officers billet where he led his fellow Marines with professionalism and military tact. The battalion's Marines spent ten rainy days reiterating and advancing machine gun skills by shooting the M-240B medium machine gun, the M-2 heavy machine gun and the MK-19 40mm automatic grenade launcher.
