Gen. James F. Amos, commandant of the Marine Corps, is saluted by sideboys as he departs multipurpose amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5), after visiting Marines assigned to 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). Amos, along with Sgt. Maj. of the Marine Corps Micheal P. Barrett, visited Marines to wish them a belated happy birthday and Thanksgiving, and to discuss the future of the Marine Corps while commending them on their efforts abroad. The 22nd MEU is deployed as part of the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group (BATARG) as the U.S. Central Command theater reserve force, providing support for maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
