ABOARD THE USS WASP -- The artillerymen of Golf Battery, the artillery unit assigned to Battalion Landing Team 1st Bn., 6th Marines, left their 155mm howitzers aboard ship to conduct infantry training in northern Albania during the 22d Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable)'s recent amphibious landing exercise (PHIBLEX), March 8 to 12.In addition to providing long range heavy indirect fire support, Golf Battery may be called upon in potential future combat operations to act as a provisional rifle company. Their training during PHIBLEX included day and night live fire exercises, patrolling, and convoy operations.The 22d MEU (SOC) left Camp Lejeune, N.C. in mid-February aboard the amphibious assault ships WASP, WHIDBEY ISLAND, and SHREVEPORT as part of Expeditionary Strike Group 2.
